Secrets do not stay secret forever. In fact, some do not stay secrets long enough to be attributed such a status, really.  It did not help that it is incredibly difficult to hide someone’s death, especially when it’s already out there.

Fabio decided to paint after his and Florian’s incredibly uneventful supper, and had holed himself up in his studio to do so. The object of his painting would be the forest that he overlooked from his window, as the sun was setting and cast a lovely orange glow above black shadows of trees. It would not last long, so Fabio knew he would have to work fast. He enjoyed the challenge, though and, like an elephant, he never forgot anything, so he wasn’t all that worried about it.

He was so absorbed in his work that he did not notice the mass of dark green hopping about the room until it jumped right in front of his face, onto the canvas. The sticky froggy made a loud ‘ribbit’ to alert Fabio of his presence and the startled Prince jumped, toppling over everything in his surprise. The paints scattered and spilled on the floor, and the easel crashed down... Right onto Fabio.

Florian, who was sitting at the computer and working with much annoyance, heard the sound and immediately got up to go examine it. He found that his leg was asleep from having sat there too long, but as uncomfortable as it was, he supposed he would just have to walk it off. There were more pressing matters. He raced up the stairs as well as one could when one’s left leg was asleep, and quickly opened the door to Fabio’s studio, seeing as it was the only one closed.

As soon as he saw what had happened, he began to laugh.

"It's not funny! This is heavy!" Fabio cried at him, trying to shove the canvas off. Florian stopped laughing long enough to lift it up and place it back up for the Prince. Fabio got up and examined the colorful mess that now painted his floor with a frown, glad that he had installed himself in the room that didn't have carpet, lest this mess be much worse. He began to clean it up grumpily, and Florian decided to help him. Florian felt bad, and not only because Fabio had an easel attack him and was now colorful. His older brother had dumped all of his share of work on him in favor of a vacation with his wife and daughter. Because of this, Florian had been incredibly busy. Consequently, he got no sleep and was grumpy and cold towards Fabio, and that was not fair. He knew this, and wanted to cheer up the other

"Oh no," he mumbled dramatically. Fabio turned to look at him, and he dramatically fell over.

"It's awful!"

"What? What is?" Fabio asked, looking about the room for something that could be considered awful. All he found was the Sticky Froggy and the ruined painting. They didn't seem to be what he was talking about.

"My knees! I don't think I'll ever walk again!" Florian exclaimed.Fabio glanced down worriedly, but the only off thing about his knees was the red paint...

Oh.

"Oh no! I'll get the medic!" Fabio said, playing along.

"How can you? You've been shot too!" and it was true; Fabio's white shirt was stained with the red from the painting. He fell dramatically besides Florian.

"I wish I could have some of your delicious cake one more time," Florian said weakly, adding a fake cough for drama.

"I want you to know that I have loved you since I met you," Fabio replied. Florian sat up and stared at him.

"Really?" He asked. Fabio snorted.

"No, of course not! You terrified the hell out of me when we first met!" He answered cheerfully. The prince was quite amused by their little game. The two had not done anything together in way too long. Even if this was simple and childish, it was much appreciated. It felt like they were friends again, like when they were children...
“I really do like your cake, though. It’s the best” Florian admitted to him. “I have no clue what I would do without you.” Normally, Florian would not be one to admit such sappy things, but in light of how he had been neglecting Fabio, he felt that a little reassurance was needed. His words, however, did not serve to reassure Fabio, but instead made something snap inside him. His heart. The mask he’d made crumbled and he whined, then clung to Florian. This surprised the Alzurian. He knew very well that Fabio loved to give hugs, especially to him. But this one felt strange. Sad. Desperate even. He hugged him back tightly.

The two found themselves sitting on the couch in front of their fireplace, one with a cup of tea, the other with a mug of coffee. Fabio was slightly curled up and silent. Florian sat up straight and stared at Fabio worriedly.

“So, what is it?” Florian asked. At that moment, he wished that he could borrow Fabio’s mind reading power so that he could read the words hidden in his silence. The other didn’t want to talk, and they sat there for quite a while in suffocating quiet.
Suddenly, Florian’s phone went off. He didn’t want to check it, but he knew that it might be important. With much reluctance, he pulled the device out of his pocket. Luckily, it was a very irrelevant e-mail sent from his brother containing pictures of Hunny meeting her first Bunnyfluff. Florian figured that if anyone had something urgent to tell him, they would call, so he logged out of his email for now. However, when he did so, the sign out page appeared, a thing that consisted of ridiculous news most of the time. Usually, Florian never glanced at it, but he did, and the reason to the prince’s misery was there, as clear as day. Fabio, wondering why Florian had suddenly froze, looked over hesitantly. They were both quiet for a moment, neither knowing what to say to the other.
“Why didn’t you tell me?” Florian asked, the first to speak up of the two. Fabio looked away and sighed.
“You wouldn’t have listened. You haven’t listened in a little while. You obviously have more important things to do than to hear me whine, especially about something like this,” Fabio replied quietly.
“Your mother was murdered! What could be more important than that?” Florian raised his voice. He rarely did that, and it startled Fabio so much that he jumped a little and moved away from him. However, hurt only led to anger, as Fabio was never fond of people having the audacity to raise their voice to him.
“Apparently, everything is more important to you! When was the last time you even talked to me or acknowledged that I’m here? Obviously you don’t care, and complaining of my loss would be like a child whining to a one-armed man that his hand was broken!” Fabio shouted, standing up. Florian frowned and thought it over for a moment, trying to find the right words to say. Meanwhile, Fabio managed to calm down, though he was frustrated for not being answered.
“If I didn’t have an arm, and a little boy ran up to me crying over a broken hand, I would not be in any way insulted. Everyone has a certain pain threshold. Some things that are bearable to one are not to another. The only important thing is that you are feeling the pain; it does not matter where it comes from.  You are hurt, you have the right to feel, end of story,” Florian explained decidedly.
“You lost both your parents for a noble cause,” Fabio pointed out.
“Yes, and I am proud of them and proud to be their son. I want to live and make this country they fought for as wonderful as they envisioned it. In doing so, I feel no pain, because they live on in what I do,” Florian told him. Fabio smiled slightly.
“I’m really sorry for all this,” He said quietly, and moved once again to hug him.
“Don’t be. It is in no way your fault. Feel free to feel how you feel and talk to me if you need to. If I’m not listening, you have my permission to hit me.” Florian hugged him back tightly, and Fabio, now having permission to, cried. And he cried. And he felt a bit better, to not beat himself up anymore for feeling. He was glad to have Florian.
He understood his pain, more than anyone else.
I honestly wish more people thought like Black does when it comes to feelings. I always hated how people would degrade you because they always thought your reaction was not worth what had caused it.
People will feel how they feel. Sometimes there will be no reason for why they feel the way they do.
That's how humans work. You wouldn't make fun of someone for breathing, why make fun of them for feeling? Both are uncontrollable.

Oh well. Humans are jerks most of the time. ^^;

I love Florian's reaction to being told that Fabio loved him. I wonder how much that must have hurt to be told that he didn't mean it.

Also! The Sticky Froggy is important. If there was no Sticky Froggy, would Florian and Fabio ever had spoken at all?
Go froggy go!
